As further evidence the Thermo-shield® ASTM – E84 Tunnel Test - report on surface Thermo-Shield® burning characteristics in 25 ft tunnel furnace shows that Thermo-Shield® failed to burn more than 1 .7ft beyond the actual gas flame in the 25ft tunnel during the 10 minute test. While the red oak control burned 20 ft of the tunnel in less than 6 minutes. Thermo-Shield® Roof Coat is also available in a Class A fire resistant rating as per UL ASTM E-1 08.
Fire resistant paint preserved a home from Jones Valley wildfire in Redding California
When the owner (we'll call her Mary) of this Redding, California home saw on Television that her neighborhood was engulfed in what would later be called the Jones Valley Fire, Mary cried the whole way home, knowing that there wouldn't be anything left. Gone were all of her earthly possessions! Everything she had in her home...gone.
As Mary approached the area, she was held back by Police and Firemen who confirmed that the entire development of 60 homes was destroyed. She would have to wait until the fires had died down until residents were allowed to go in. As Mary drove through the development, she saw what she feared the most. Neighbor's houses were totally destroyed.
Much to Mary's surprise, when she rounded the corner and started driving up the hill, her house was standing! Standard Thermo-Shield is fire resistant enough to have protected Mary's home. Hofers Lounge
These photos are from Hofers Lounge in Dimock, South Dakota. Thermo-Shield® was being installed over their existing asphalt shingle roof and was about half done when a fire broke out under the already finished portion of the roof during the night. Even though the timber was severely burned underneath, the fire did not penetrate through the roof coating. Again, the standard Roof Thermo-Shield product was enough of a fire resistant paint to prevent the entire building from burning down!
Firemen chopped this hole in the roof to get water to the fire. You can see the extent of burning to the framework. Firemen tell us, in spite of the fire in the building, the newly finished area was comfortable to stand on. Right next to that, on the uncoated section, it was very uncomfortable to stand on. Heat penetrated through their boots. The State Fire Marshal told the building owner that he had never seen anything like this, and it was his opinion that the Thermo-Shield® coating was the only thing that saved the building from burning down. In spite of the intense heat, the newly applied coating still looked good, except where the firemen intentionally chopped through the roof.
